IoT From an Software Engineering perspective?

I'm a bachelor student, Software Engineering. I will do my thesis work next term and i would like to write and do research about something related to IoT but my biggest challange is to be able to do it from a Software Engineering perspective, i tend to solve problems in a much more practical manner.

So what i am doing now is to try to collect information and get an understanding of what kind of academic question i might be abe to investigate next semester.

Or maybe an discussion about the challenges for Software Engineering when it comes to IoT. Practically i'm looking into 6LoWPAN solutions for the raspberry pi and contiki OS. I'm on my way to set up a testing facility to get some basic practical experience.
