E-books for students?

We are thinking about buying new textbooks for our students. Is there an established practice of buying e-textbooks for students?

For example, are we allowed to buy, e.g. amazon kindle text books, say 10 copies of some particular book, like this and hand them over to our students for the time of study (2 years). And then give the same to kindle copies to the following students?
