How to be sure the axis labels are readable when printed?

I have doubts about the size of the axis labels I have to use to be sure they will be readable when printed.

All the plots are made using Matlab and there I set the font size on 14. The plots are all saved as .eps to be sure they will keep a high quality even when rescaled.

When adding them to the thesis I need to rescale some of them to make them smaller (I am using Latex and the scale factor is 0.4 or 0.5 depending on the plot).

Is there a way to check if the font size is ok whitout having to print the pages with the plots?
