Apostrophes to show pluralization of a single number

Oxford Dictionaries (link above) proposes that a single number may be pluralized with the addition of an apostrope. If this is the case, is it correct to use it to use it when writing about a group of individuals from a single academic year group such as 'The Year 11's went to France.'
