A request from a tenth grader for advice regarding college admissions

Good morning/evening/afternoon to those reading this.

Background: It happens so, that I've always been interested in contributing to the fields of Mathematics and Science through research. I have always been interested in the mysteries of Math Science... now, as a 10th grader, I'm more into some of the specialized fields in each of the aforementioned subjects, like Game Theory, Calculus (leaning towards problem solving in Integration and Analysis), Quantum Chromodynamics, Electromagnetism and other Astrophysics-related (contemporary) theories. From next week onwards (after my final exams end), I plan to study seriously (Not that I don't currently, just that I think it's time I get myself out of the pace of the school's education completely).

(Note: I'm not an introvert, and have a Brobdingnagian interest in so many things in life (will state some if required), I think I would prefer to refer to myself as a quintessential philomath. )

Naturally I wish to get into a top-notch college for undergraduation, preferably into Caltech, MIT, Yale, Stanford, Harvard, etc. But not for the fame; I wish to get more opportunities to do meaningful research in the fields and subjects I love. Knowing that I have two years, and a lot has to be done, I wish to start preparing my college resume now itself (Never actually started preparing; I do have good awards and scholarships to go with the application though).

This is where I need advice.

(Note: I don't care about being brilliant or famous or rich; It's just that being considered so can give me privileges to advance in my personal research. I'm not narcissistic, nor boastful...not one tiny bit; in fact, I realized long ago that making a name for yourself has no meaning unless you're having fun doing it, and have also realised that always, always, there is someone out there who is more intelligent/successful than you.)

What are all the things, a student must do, to effectively be considered as a brilliant candidate? (Note: This is a reflexive question; I ask for specifics later on in this post)

I plan to do the following in the next two years :-

  1. Get strong academic results constantly.

  2. Do well in the SATs, General and Subject.

  3. Write a neat, clear, outstanding essay.

  4. Try to participate in Quizzes and Table Tennis (I've been in State teams {previously} for both of the activities)

  5. Publish a book on Poetry (Pretty sure it's good... I'm happy about this one! :) )

  6. Publish a paper or two in Physics or Mathematics.

  7. Do well in external exams (Like that conducted by UNSW)

  8. Attend some social conferences, akin to MUN and maybe even some MUN programmes, science conferences, etc (By representing the School).

  9. Get teacher recommendations.

More specifics:

  1. I'm an Indian, who recently moved to Malaysia 1.5 years ago, and live near the Malaysian-Singaporean border, and attend an International Indian school situated in Singapore everyday (It takes 45 minutes of travel... So no problems there!). Curriculum is CBSE.

  2. I'm also preparing for IIT-JEE through online coaching, the most highly regarded engineering entrance test in India. The IIT-JEE Advanced paper, for getting into the prestigious IITs in India, is considered to be very tough, and learning to take that exam gives one immense opportunity to study and research in Math and Science (Note that the test is designed to test blazing quick, accurate, problem solving skills; only those very ingenious, committed, innovative people get Top 200 ranks or so from Lakhs of participants).

Here are my questions :

  1. What other things can I do to stand out and get merit-based scholarships? I need some concrete advice, if possible, here.

  2. I wish to know the complete process of publishing a Math paper, on Arxiv (preprint) or to a Journal (Note: I'm well aware many papers written are gibberish; I'm well aware it may just be a rediscovery; I definitely plan to make sure that the paper's content is well laid, original etc...The content is my problem and I'll take care of that (It's going to be tough getting originality here, I know, but I'll see what I can do).). Content is not the issue; I wish to know what journals out there accept submitted papers quite easily, how I should go about the submission, and how should I go about submitting a paper to Arxiv.

  3. What are some summer programmes that can help me learn while giving a complete scholarship? Eg: MITES by MIT, but I need to be a US citizen or resident for that.

  4. Are all the nine things I plan to do (which I've listed above) fine? Any small tips besides the ones I've specifically asked about in questions 1-3?

Generally, please list out things that can make me stand out, and address my above queries in detail if possible (priority from question 1 to 3).

Penultimate Note: I'm aware there might be partial duplicate questions, but I feel that I can get good advice only if I let others know of my situation; pretty sure not many are there in my situation (technically, no one in the world can be in the same situation besides me because... let's not get into philosophy, or the science, of uniqueness of an individual).

Final Note: I'm new to this site, and by the looks of it, it doesn't look like people ask for college-admission related advice at all. I'm a bit let down by the possibility of flooding downvotes on this posting, thereby preventing me from getting good advice. (Also, I don't have enough recommendation for making new, relevant tags...) But I have to do it here, because I think it's the one of the best places to ask advice.

So I hope I can get some good advice from amazing people who take part in this site. Thank you for reading.
