should I resign from my doctoral studies?

While applying to probable doctoral studies (which I am still in that process), and because I was not getting any available position I decided to enroll in an online PhD in institution X. The reason for that was because one of my former master´s degree professor leave to institute X by personal reasons. The thing is that I made a research proposal, which was accepted, and since that I have continue working on it. The main problem is that I spent like one year in that proposal, and the feedback that I got in the last year was almost null. I believe that the main problem is because I am in this sort of online degree, so I do not have direct contact with other faculty members, courses and so on in that institution.

Once I read here, that for following doctoral studies there were two main paths (which is fairly common in my field that is CS):

1) The doctoral student is some sort of cheap labour hand, who is making an specific task given by a supervisor (mostly because he has no time or need someone to expand it, like in the PhD comics strips, sorry for being so harsh in this appreciation)

2) The doctoral student is given only small tips on how to guide its research that would lead to his thesis (I believe I am in this track)

Now I just dont feel pretty confortable about continue with that degree that I am currently following. I would like to be in like some sort of "real" doctoral degree; I mean to be able to be a TA, follow other courses, being on the campus and so on.

Actually I am upper 35 years old, and I feel really depressed and not knowing what to do with my current situation. In short terms, should I quit this degree and try to get a new doctoral position?

Thanks
